About Us
Swimming has always played an important role in the Hall Family. Gary Hall, Sr. began swimming competitively at a very early age. He went on to become a three-time Olympic medalist (1968, 1972 and 1976). During his career he held 10 World records in four different events; individual medley, butterfly, backstroke and freestyle and captured 23 individual National titles and seven NCAA titles.
Gary married Mary Keating who was also raised in the world of swimming. After retiring from world-class competition in 1976, Dr. Hall established his medical practice in Phoenix, Arizona, where he owned and operated one of the most successful Eye Laser Centers in America. Throughout his medical career, Dr. Hall continued to compete in triathlons and swimming events, most recently breaking several world records in Masters swimming competition.
Gary and Mary raised six children in Phoenix, AZ and each of the Hall children swam competitively for many years. Their oldest son, Gary Hall, Jr., competed in three Olympic Games and won a total of ten medals: 5 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze. The Halls became the first pair of father and son to make three Olympic appearances.
In 2006, Gary, Sr. retired from his medical practice in order to devote more time to his family and passion for swimming. He, his wife, and daughter, Bebe, joined Gary Jr. and his family in Florida to help direct the operations of The Race Club.
The Race Club was officially founded in 2003 by Gary Hall Jr. and David Arluck with the hopes of promoting the sport of swimming world wide. The Race Club provided not only great swimming coaches for athletes preparing for the Olympic Games, but great coaches in all five of the important training disciplines: swimming, strength training, mental training, nutrition and recovery. When Gary Sr., Mary and Bebe joined The Race Club team, they began to share what they had learned about training athletes in all five important disciplines with the rest of the world. The Race Club began offering swim camps where swimmers of any age or any ability could learn how to swim faster. Based in California, Amy and Richard joined The Race Club team and began conducting private swim lessons and providing consultation in the Los Angeles area.
Bebe joined Amy and Richard in California in 2011 and founded Hall Swim Academy in 2014. She also resumed her career as a middle school teacher and continued teaching until 2016 when she turned all her attention to Hall Swim Academy. She has 11 years experience teaching in the classroom and 25 years experience teaching in the pool.
Bebe and her team of experienced, enthusiastic swim instructors have been conducting private and small group swim lessons in the greater Los Angeles area since 2014. They travel to clients’ homes or locations of their choice: apartment and condo complexes, friends’ homes, and community pools. Hall Swim Academy also conducts swim lessons at four locations throughout Los Angeles: Mar Vista, Playa Vista, Beverly Hills and North Hollywood. Bebe will work with her clients to customize swim lessons that are just right for them! Please call (305) 469-5500 for more information.
