Water Safety

When the weather heats up, everyone enjoys heading to the pool or the beach. Most people don’t think about water safety too much. However, children between the ages of 1 and 4 have the highest drowning rates. For people between the ages of 5 and 24, drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death. Most water-related accidents can be easily avoided by following some very simple steps.

  • Always fence your pool with self-closing and self-latching gates
  • When pools are not in use, cover them if possible
  • Make sure kids learn how to swim
  • Always swim with a buddy
  • Never allow a child to enter the water without permission from an adult
  • Never let children or inexperienced swimmers swim unsupervised
  • Save the phone calls and texts for when children are out of the water
  • Teach children to stay away from drains
  • If a child is missing, check the pool or spa first
